Allergy Treatment in Denver

Our trusted, proven allergy treatment process begins with a quick and painless skin test. The results lead to informed recommendations on how to avoid certain allergens and on lifestyle changes to consider. From there, our Colorado allergy specialists can prescribe medication to help reduce your allergy symptoms. We also offer immunotherapy to those who would benefit from a deeper intervention.

Allergy Testing

Our at-home test can confirm the cause and severity of your allergies, helping to pinpoint specific allergens. These tests can accurately detect and determine food and external allergies all in one test. The results help allergists provide an action plan for symptom management and treatment.

Control Exposure

Once our test confirms your unique current allergy makeup, we can offer you ways to navigate around problem allergens, recommending changes to your diet, the sorts of environments you enter, and other strategies. This approach is ideal for patients who are allergic to specific animals or certain types of food.

Medication Options

To help reduce your discomfort, we can prescribe medication, such as antihistamines and nasal steroid sprays, to limit inflammation. Allergy medicine varies from over-the-counter to prescription-only pills, liquids, inhalers, nasal spray, eye drops, skin creams, and immunology treatments.

Immunology: Allergy Shots vs Drops

Immunotherapy shots were once the most effective way to treat chronic allergy suffering. Over the past 20 years, sublingual drops have become a more popular, effective treatment. Daily drops under the tongue teach the body to react to allergens less severely over time. They are often preferred over shots because of their long-term effectiveness and ease of use: They can be taken conveniently at home and require no regular visits to a clinic.

Allergy Patient Success Story

Meet Jenna, a Denver patient who never looked back once she switched to allergy drops to combat her list of allergens: sage, cats, dogs, weeds, and dust. Jenna came to AENT experiencing terrible sinus headaches and breathing issues. After testing Jenna, Dr. Menachof recommended daily sublingual allergy drops. Jenna was so impressed with the improvement, she was able to throw out the medicines that had been making her feel so groggy. She has been taking drops for longer than 8 months now, and her discomfort has vanished.

“It’s so easy. It’s so worth it! I feel awesome.”

Types of Allergy Triggers

Exposure to new foods and environments can trigger an allergic reaction in anyone at any stage of life. Severe reactions are most often associated with food. Peanuts, tree nuts, fish, and shellfish are the most common culprits of food allergies. Milk, eggs, soy, and wheat are also known to trigger reactions.

Common outdoor allergy triggers include both tree and plant pollen, especially in high-pollen seasons like spring and summer. Insect bites and stings are also on the list of common allergy triggers found outside. Pet or animal hair and dander, dust mites, and mold are common indoor triggers for nasal allergies. Detergents, cleaners, cigarette smoke, and perfume can trigger allergic reactions both indoors and outside.

Common Allergy Symptoms

Allergy symptoms can vary based on the trigger or allergen causing an allergic reaction. Some of the most common are sneezing, a runny or stuffy nose, irritated eyes, and inflammation.

Others include:

Hives or a rash
Itchy throat
Sinus drainage
Frequent throat clearing
Worsened asthma symptoms
Shortness of breath
Sinusitis

Why Advanced ENT & Allergy Center?
